Geothermal systems use technology known as ground source heat pumps to make the transfer of hot and cool air more efficient. A Geothermal system removes heat from the space and rejects it into the ground during the cooling periods and then pulls heat out of the ground and puts it back into the space during the heating periods.

That heat is then transferred from the refrigerant through a heat exchanger into the water.

The water is then pumped through a series of pipes through the ground using a loop water circulator pump and the heat is absorbed into the ground. After the ground absorbs heat from the water, the cooler water is returned to the house ready to absorb more heat.
