H.A.Davie Ltd - Houghton le Spring

H.A.Davie was initially registered as a limited business in July 1902 but had commenced trading in Sunderland years earlier as Engineers, Millwrights and Licensed Valuers. Henry Angus Davie was the founder of this company and initially took the leading role as the Managing Director of the business. He was a mechanical engineer with an interest in the embryo engine trade and among the initial agencies held by the Company which was on behalf of the National Gas Engine Co. Ltd.

During the 1920's, the Company developed from being only mechanical technicians and opened a showroom in Chester Road, Sunderland from which it started selling electric equipment’s. In 1927 it became an agent for Frigidaire refrigeration equipment.

From this date, while continuing to function as electric contractors, they shortly became more involved in the quickly developing refrigeration marketplace with consumers as diverse as ice cream producers and regional hospitals. In 1979, the present Managing Director, David Martin-Jones, with colleagues purchased the Company from its past owners and in 1983 the Company moved to its present premise in Houghton-le-Spring.
